The story line moves slowly. This is not one of the best that this author has written. It's sort of boring in places.
This gritty novel of the R.C. church in the 1970's is from a priest's perspective and is quite compelling. I enjoyed the many details of a priest's daily life in the church and the portrayal of the characters of his colleagues. The plot is well constructed too. I will read more of Kienzle's stories when I don't mind a slightly darker view of life. The characters motivations are very realistic.
I don't know any other series of books that I have enjoyed more than this particular author's, his discriptions of the priest characters are most entertaining because I have known some who I can relate to from his books.
I highly recommend this author's books for fun, entertainment and insight, whether a Catholic or not. Enjoy.
I have been reading the Father Koesler Mysteries for years. Each has interesting insights into the Catholic Church or wife in the late 60s early 70s, all interesting and all tied in nicely with the Mistry plot. This is a fine addition to the series. I enjoyed reading it very much and I'm glad it is available in the format at such a reasonable price.
